3 Cloud ERP Trends to Look out for in 2022

As we step into another new year, the business technology environment is growing at an unprecedented pace. Global IT spending topped more than $4 trillion, yes trillion, in 2021 according to Gartner, showing an increase of nearly 9% from 2020.

Regardless of much business uncertainty over the last 2 years, businesses have invested in embracing the change. Adopting new IT strategies, better ways to interact with customers, remote working tools, and more, have become how we have battled back to retain “business-as-usual”.

With all this market pressure and drive for change, what are companies really investing in?

What can we expect to see from the ERP market in the coming year?

What are businesses looking for next to drive real change within their organisation?

1) Cloud ERP will become even more flexible

Do you remember when the iPhone came out, and mobile browsing became a thing? There was a huge rush for organisations to create mobile-ready versions of their websites. This resulted in some rather clunky and disconnected versions of websites, where your experience on mobile was sub-power at best, and at other times, downright terrible. Over time we saw gradual improvements, right up until the last 4-5 years.

This is where the development of websites for the mobile experience has become the primary focus.

Our ERP experience can still be quite like the mobile versions of websites we had in 2008. A different experience, often in App form, and not always the full package. At 3EN, we believe that 2022 will begin to present many ERP platforms take more notice of their mobile experience, not in a simplified form, but how they bring the entire suite of their products to mobile, undiluted.

We don’t believe ‘apps’ are going to be the solution here, but rather the browser.

Ensuring that your ERP is truly mobile and not “mobile” like our websites in 2008, is going to be essential to keep up with the crowd.

2) Automation & AI Reigns

Our world is now ruled by a culture of instant gratification, and the business world is following suit.

One of the principal ways in which businesses are scratching this itch is through process automation. Central to driving automation is the adoption of AI across all business systems, with the number one goal of optimising data processing, and ultimately faster, better informed, decision making. The amount of untapped data available to organisations is staggering, and AI is the key to unlocking this across our organisations.

In 2022, and most likely beyond, the growing demand for AI across all ERP and process areas, will continue to grow. AI will continue to enable organisations to sift through ever-growing masses of data, pulling on the power of machine learning and other AI technologies.

The gratification of “more informed data NOW” will continue to be the cry of most businesses, and the ability to tap into new actionable insights to drive process improvements will be a constant demand.

3) Acceleration of Cloud Adoption

Yes, we know, Cloud, or Software-as-a-Service, is not something new, but it is still one of the most untapped utilities within many organisations ERP strategies.

Driven by the demand for more flexible working environments, I believe in 2022 we are going to see the adoption of a Cloud-first approach to business systems accelerate like never before. Moving business operations and systems to the cloud has pretty much become mandatory over the last few years, but this is only the tip of the iceberg.

As organisations realise the benefits of a cloud-first approach, we will begin to see adoption soar as businesses scramble to gain the efficiencies offered by real-time data, flexible working, and a more connected business.

 In Summary

If we could boil all the trends down to one simple message, it is this: businesses are looking to increase the way in which their business interacts with data. Utilising systems as a mere point of recording data is as outdated as using stone tablets. The demand for turning the copious amounts of data we have into useful and actionable information as fast as we can is the real demand.
